Part III of School (1950-1980) Separate and Unequal

"From the viewpoints of various minority communities, public schooling affected their children's chances for active participation in American life and served as the main community issue around which different people could rally to promote achievement equality, and the promise of the American dream."(pg 123-124) The book contains a lot of one sided explanations and this is my go-to quote for this chapter, as it does pertain to inequality and separation.
"African Americans, Latinos and Native Americans in particular were virtually excluded from this important transformation. For example, whereas 54 percent of southern white children of high school age were enrolled public high schools by 1935, more than eight out of every ten African American children of high school age were not enrolled in secondary schools. As late as 1968, the average schooling for Mexican Americans in Texas was 4.7 years."(126)In a community there are a bunch of ethnic backgrounds, races, countries people are from that make up society. To this day many still do not think there is a problem with the educational system where it demonstrates separation and inequality. Some demographics above give us a chance to see the diverse students who attend school despite their background.
